About
The Dawn
The print Dawn re-appropriated some of the illustrations from 1906, The story of the greatest nations, from the dawn of history to the twentieth century: by Edward S. Ellis and Charles F. Horne, an illustrated encyclopedia. The Encyclopedia depicts an epical interpretation of world the history where whiteness and maleness are continuously celebrated throughout all the 10 volumes. The print looks into creating an intricate background where the original illustrations blend into each other like an endless story of violence and colonization celebrating western tradition. The animals carrying the halo, make part of a personal iconography, responding -as an empowering strategy- to coloniality and exploitation. The depiction of animals in the early scientific expeditions in South America and Africa amplify the Colonial attitude of possessing the other, to control the natural resources.
