The “Passport/Permit to the Horizon”
was created and elaborated on in response to the project UV in Sousse, Tunisia. The project had multiple components, beginning with a public conversation at the Plaza Bou Jaafar, solicited by a sign created that read: "تحدث معي", that translates “Talk to me”.
The public then engaged though questions about the “future”. From the conversations, a series of concerns were made clear, for example, a lingering pessimism and concern about migration. The concept of “Passport/Permit to the Horizon” was born from these conversations.
ولد هذا العمل في إطار التظاهرة الفنية "يوتوبيا بصرية" في مدينة سوسة بتونس.
يتكون العمل من عدة عناصر أولها حوار مفتوح مع المتجولين في كورنيش بوجعفر قام به الطلبة المتطوعون وهم يرفعون لافتات كتب عليها "أحكي معايا."
سأل المتطوعون المارة أسئلة كثيرة عن رؤيتهم للمستقبل. وتبين لنا جميعا على إثر هذا الحوار أن اليأس والتفكير في الهجرة فد طغيا على تفكير أغلبية محدثينا. ولدت فكرة "جواز للأفق" من رحم هذا الحوار.
Project 1/
based on Letter signs found on top of hotels and advertisement in buildings, 2 phrases were produced, “Don’t forget to dream” and “Passport/Permit to the Horizon”.
The sign “Don’t forget to dream” was left on top of the Gallery El Birou in Sousse while the sign “Passport/Permit to the Horizon”, became a nomadic/traveling sign.
المشروع 1
استوحينا فكرة اللافتتين "ماتنساش تحلم" و "جواز للأفق" من اللوحات الإشهارية التي تعلو أسطح البنايات والنزل في المدينة. تم وضع لافتة "ماتنساش تحلم" فوق سطح رواق البيرو بسوسة. أما لافتة "جواز للأفق" فقد أصبحت من اللافتات الرحل التي تتنقل من مكان إلى آخر.
Project 2/
Red Birds. 700 birds were laser cut as signifiers of migration. Old photographs were collected from family albums from people that live in Sousse. Four images were created for an installation in the walls of an old fabric, MINOTERIE LA ROSE BLANCHE, in the Italian Neighborhood. The project attempts to establish a sense of nostalgia, memory and belonging with the additional use of spray painting and stencil design through research on traditional Tunisian tiles and patterns.
المشروع 2
قمنا بقص سبع مائة عصفور ورقي أحمر بتقنية الليزر. ترمز هذه العصافير إلى الهجرة .ثم جمعنا صورا فوتوغرافية قديمة من عائلات المدينة. اخترنا منها أربعة صور لاقامة تنصيبة على حيطان مصنع عجائن مهجور على ملك شركة الوردة البيضاء. يقع المصنع في الحي الإيطالي القديم. يسعى المشروع إلى خلق نوستالجيا في الفضاء العام وإحياء الذاكرة الجماعية وإذكاء الشعور بالإنتماء. وبعد دراسة تقنيات الزخرف التقليدي التونسي قمنا أيضا باستعمال الستانسيل كنموذج لتكوين أرابسك حول الملصقات.
Project 3/
Marionette as public art, is project to be developed over the next months in collaboration with story tellers and marionette performers. The Marionette (of 5 meters) was developed from commonly used diagrams of autopsy, and carry 7 additional heads over the original head following the tradition of the acrobatic dancers of “Gougou Zarzis” where pots are added to their head while dancing. The body was drawn using traditional henna patterns by artist Nassima Zelfeni . Phase 2 of the project (performance) is in development.
المشروع 3
"الدمية المتحركة كفن عام" هو مشروع سيتم تطويره في الأشهر القادمة بالتعاون مع قاصين وممثلين. صممت الدمية التي يبلغ طولها خمسة أمتار وفق مخططات تشريح الجثث المتعارف عليها. تحمل هذه الدمية سبعة رؤوس فوق الرأس الأصلي في إشارة لطبالي قرقنة وهم فنانون استعراضيون يرقصون حاملين قللا من الفخار. أما جسد الدمية فقد رسمته الفنانة نسيمة زلفاني متبعة تقنيات الحنة التقليدية. لاتزال المرحلة الثانية من المشروع بصدد الإنجاز.
Project 4/
As a final marker, a series of posters were developed to be placed in locations made available by the city for political elections.The posters pay homage to young people, their creative spirit and the possibilities to give a social space to the next generation.
المشروع 4
أما آخر آثار المشروع فتتمثل في سلسلة من الملصقات تم وضعها مكان ملصقات الإنتخابات البلدية التي شهدتها تونس مؤخرا. تمثل الملصقات تحية لروح الإبداع لدى الشباب وتأكيدا على قدرتهم على حمل المشعل.
